On April 2nd Juan Ponce de León landed at a spot a little to the north of the present site of St. Augustine. He found the new discovery particularly gorgeous and as it was the Easter festival of la Pascua Florida (Blooming Easter), he named it La Florida.
107 years before the Pilgrims, Catholic Spain discovered what would be the United States of America and planted the cross of our Savior in the Floridiansand. In 2013, we will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the planting of the Cross in the country. This should be a great time to engrave in our memory.
