SSPX Fort Myers Mission after Hurricane Ian

Source: St. Thomas More Priory

Our Lady Queen of Angels is the SSPX mission in Fort Myers. Here is the comforting news from the chapel.

Ian, the monster storm landed on US soil on Wednesday on Florida's west coast as a Category 4 hurricane. It shredded homes with winds topping 150 mph. According to local officials, Florida’s death toll has climbed to at least 52. RIP.

Lee County, which encompasses Fort Myers, accounts for the majority of the fatalities, with at least 35 lives lost in the county.

Our SSPX mission at Fort Myers is served from St. Thomas More Priory by Fr. Scott Settimo. He traveled on Friday to celebrate Mass for the weekend. He could survey the property and was happy to witness that all was fine except for some downed trees and torn roof on the shed. The reroofing of the rectory was recently completed and no leak was found. Electric and Wi-fi are still out and water is not potable.

Father is still reaching the faithful who have been affected to evaluate their needs. He will entrust tomorrow all the victims of the hurricane to Our Lady of the Rosary, Queen of Angels who has been protecting her little chapel, allowing the Holy Sacrifice, the source of life to be offered in the middle of the disaster.

From Miramar Beach to Fort Myers, none of our SSPX properties has suffered grave damage during this hurricane and it seems that - except for several bad floodings - our faithful neither. We are very grateful!

Damages on Fort Myers SSPX property: some downed trees only!

Governor DeSantis activated the Florida Disaster Fund to help the Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian.
